Meet AJ Parsons, a Men's Physique competitor in the NPC, who was nice enough to take the time and answer a few questions about his experience with staying motivated, goal setting, and how CBD (Herbstrong in particular) has been a game changer for him, as an athlete. Questions 4-6 are all about CBD.
What pushed you to become an NPC athlete?
"When I first started lifting it was just a hobby and something to do. After about a year I was influenced by social media and became motivated to become the best version of myself with no excuse. When I started to see the progress I became addicted to physical health and now it is a way of life for me."
What is the hardest part of competing?
"The hardest part is that progress takes what seems like forever, but you can lose it relatively fast. When you're prepping for a competition, the attention to detail of your diet, cardio, training, water intake, and sleeping is exhausting. Losing fat, dipping into the single digit body fat percentage range takes weeks if not months of perfect consistency to achieve that goal. The second you lose that focus or start to dip away from that goal you will not see the results that you are looking for. By far the hardest part is the discipline that it takes to achieve your goals."
How do you stay motivated?
"For me, motivation is never something that I have really lacked. I will say getting started was the hardest part. I used to write down goals and when I would meet them I would cross it off. However, I did something different. I wrote down short term goals (something that can be done in 2 weeks), a medium length goal (what could I get done in 1/4-1/2 a year), and long term (goals that you won't reach until the first two are met and then some). I think having a clear path to the steps it takes helps tremendously. I think a lot of people fail to reach their goals because they do not know the steps it takes to reach them. Challenge yourself, learn, get uncomfortable, and ask questions."
What has CBD helped you with the most?
"CBD has been a game changer. Muscle soreness after a workout is something that challenges me. I stay sore for a very long time compared to most people and CBD has sped up the recovery like crazy. I would credit that to the fact it has helped regulate my sleep so much. Sleep plays a huge factor into how much muscle you're going to put on. If I can get a good night sleep with the power of CBD every night and be able to wake up refreshed and ready for another punishing workout, then yea I am going to take it."
Were you worried about trying CBD before actually giving it a shot?
"I question everything. Never take the first source of information you receive and believe it. I did a ton of my own research, asked experts, and people that I trust their honest opinion on CBD and I decided it was worth looking into. Before joining up with Herb Strong, I was using CBD and noticed the results and benefits, but nothing like this brand. I would not say I was ever worried to try it but more skeptical. But believe me, it has worked miracles for me."
What would you say to someone who is trying to decide if they should start taking CBD for their health or not?
"I would tell them to do the research that I did and ask people they know that take it their opinion. Then I would suggest to try it, the potential benefit far outweighs the potential side effects in my opinion so give it a shot."
